I see horizon sunlight in a woods.
The spots of sunlight on the tree are emphasized – When sunlit trunk & ground come together there is no distinction – Through an opening is revealed distant rolling plains, sunlit which have much detail.
Shadows on building vary in intensity – The closer the object casting shadow the more clean-cut & dk they are – A distant object may cast only a vague blur -
I saw yesterday sunlit building a hot white sidewalk in front; all highly keyed up by the sunlight. Presently a black cat walked by & I noted with surprise that he received no sunlight – He was as intense black as at midnight –
A butterfly darting in front of a shadow, disappeared suddenly as he flew across the sunlit sidewalk!
Sunday evening at dusk I saw a flock of blackbirds flying across the fields which were dully lit up by the afterglow turning suddenly they disappeared, & again turning appeared against it –
