August 27, 1916-
A cool rainy morning later loose big clouds immense white rifts – at times hazy sunlight + again brilliant, afternoon – wind from North – layer clouds – earth cool + green an brilliant white light around the trees where they come against sky –
Southeast is a huge forest split with sunrays, + there is an opening which reveals a big valley up which a train comes with white smoke.
I see a sunflower whose petals have jagged blk + white energy up against the shadow of a tree
The close of day was cool air – richly blending streaked sky with rich blue distances – the sun set in a long arch shaped opening in the sky –
This season is one day a cool layer-sky with rain or wind; and another day a brilliant hot sunlit day with vivid patterns of plants –
