Aug 17 – Sun –
About 10:00 am Tommy [Burchfield’s grandson, son of Martha Richter, brother of David and Margaret] called – talked first to Peggy then to Bertha & finally to me – he was so excited about the IBM picnic that he had been on the day before he kept talking louder & louder until finally he was shouting – a little later they all came over – It was good to get one of Tommy’s “Bear Hugs” again – David was so glad to have him back he could hardly leave him alone – Mart said when they went down to the train to meet him, there was no sign of him. They hurried upstairs and there he was, walking alone, lugging his big suitcase. (Art had told him if no one met him at the train to just follow the crowd.) – He had been gone six weeks & he would never admit to being homesick, but when he hugged them he started to cry!
PM – John O'Hare here about 1:30 – To studio – and John picked out about 16 pictures he wanted the “ Cicada Woods” but I asked him to wait awhile for it. I am not ready to let it go – we promised the Genesee Road picture, & then we all regretted it.
Mart & Hank & the boys in for a brief visit –
