Come the second Friday of each month, art lovers instinctively head to the Burchfield Penney Art Center for its monthly Second Fridays party, during which all manner of art-centric activities consume the Elmwood Avenue institution from 4 to 9 p.m. Here’s what’s on tap for tonight:
At 5:30 p.m., Burchfield Penney volunteer Karen Foegen leads the “Personal Doodles” workshop, in which participants can learn to scribble like Charles Burchfield. Also at 5:30 p.m. in the East Gallery, during the closing reception for the center’s gargantuan members show, local artists Alice Alexandrescu and Shasti O’Leary Soudant present their performance “Ception” and Daniel Kolb presents “10 Second Rule.” The Burchfield Penney also will celebrate the opening of a new exhibition of work by Karen Donnellan with a tour led by the artist at 7 tonight; a screening of film and video work from “The Artists Among Us” at 6 p.m.; a guided tour for hearing-impaired visitors at 5:45 p.m.; and finally, at 9 p.m., Squeaky Wheel’s screening of the silent film “A Page of Madness” with an original score by J.T. Rinker.
