From Canada – a “Seventh Symphony of Tchaikovsky – and arrangement by ? – based on notes T. had left just before his death – On a first hearing it sounded almost as if all of his music out put into a meat-grinder, mixed thoroughly and then presented as one composition. (Reminding me of the episode in Baum’s “Magical Monarch of Mo” when three “wise” men, unable to agree on the identity of the sneak-thief who was robbing the kings orchard, were like-wise put thru a mixer, and being one man, instantly came up with the solution) But in the case of Tchaikovsky’s “Seventh” Symphony, the result seemed like a mish-mash to me. After all, it would be better for these unfinished notes to be left just as sketches. I would hate the idea of anyone “finishing” any incomplete picture I would leave behind.
In the evening Mart + Hank dropped by to pick up Peggy.
Evening music – Haydn’s Symphony No. 86 –
