Charles E. Burchfield, July 19, 1958
Harold Leroy Olmsted was a painter in western New York who was a contemporary and friend of Charles Burchfield. Olmsted purchased the materwork Oncoming Spring directly from Burchfield, and the family later donated Oncoming Spring to the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
Olmsted's granddaughter, Emily Roderick Oprea, recounted the story of being locked in Burchfield's studio for Archivist Heather Gring during her Living Legacy Project interview. While it cannot be confirmed this was the same trip (or the same granddaughter), you can listen to Emily talk about that experience here.
