Unless you’re hankering for some more heat and humidity, today should be just about perfect. Hot in the sunshine. Cool in the shade. The National Weather Service expects highs around 80 and lows tonight near 60. Saturday could be warmer and steamier.
Big night
This being the second Friday of the month, the Burchfield Penney Art Center at SUNY Buffalo State is open late with a quartet of attractions. A new photo exhibit, “Gene Witkowski: At the Waterfront,” opens at 5:30 p.m. In the gallery’s Front Yard, there’s music from two groups, Folkfaces, and Jays and Crows. At 8 p.m., there’s a performance of “Sinew,” a collaboration between Lehrerdance and artist Colleen Ludwig. Then, at dusk, the gallery’s front facade lights up with “The Lake Series,” films by Phil Hastings.
Macedonian menu
Warming up appetites for this weekend’s Taste of Buffalo with lamb and shish-kebabs is the 24th annual Macedonia Festival, which opens for a three-day run at 5 p.m. at SS. Cyril & Methody Macedonian Orthodox Church, 4785 Lake Ave., Blasdell. You also will find music, dance groups, cultural exhibits and a beer tent.
Sounds on the shoreline
Canadian singer and songwriter Dallas Green, born in nearby St. Catharines, Ont., traded his successful post-hardcore punk band Alexisonfire for new success as the more melodic City and Colour. He headlines an outdoor show in the Outer Harbor Concert Series on Fuhrmann Boulevard that starts at 6 p.m. with kindred indie rockers Young the Giant and Tokyo Police Club.
Chautauqua celebrities
Visiting the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater today is Alberto Gonzalez, attorney general under President George W. Bush, who will wind up this week’s consideration of privacy issues at 10:45 a.m. On the same stage at 8 p.m. will be country singer Jennifer Nettles, formerly half of the hit duo Sugarland, and emerging Nashville singer-songwriter Brandy Clark.
Talking landfill blues
Residents for Responsible Government in Youngstown, which keeps a wary eye on hazardous wastes in the Towns of Lewiston and Porter, holds a press conference with local elected officials at 10 a.m. in Youngstown’s Falkner Park to talk about the proposed expansion of the Chemical Waste Management landfill in Model City. State agencies will hold public hearings on the expansion at 1 and 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday in Lewiston-Porter High School.

There is another fridaynightbash! tonight at Coca-Cola Field. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the Bisons happy hour, with food and beverage specials and live music. First pitch in the game against the Durham Bulls is at 7:05. And after the final out – fireworks!
