Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), Burning Muckland, 1929; watercolor, pencil and gouache on paper, 19 1/2 in. x 26 3/4 inches; Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, Purchase, Mrs. Frank Tillar Fund
One day last week John called and told Bertha that Syracuse University had bought “Sun, Moon & Star” and that the two pictures for Valps were on their way. A couple days later I received a check and statement from him- among the list of purchasers, I was surprised to see the name “Clancy” as having bought “Burning Muckland”- Bertha agreed with me that he should have it as a gift so I called him up and told him. He was very pleased. He told me that he was pretty sure that “View Thru Trees” (Colden) and “Midsummer Caprice” had been sold to buyers in Detroit- (from photographs) and that he had made a deal with Fleischman about his debt to us. F is to return a picture John wanted for a client & that sale will cancel the debt. John is hoping to come up here for a visit.
