Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), “V-2 – Sky between 1 & 3, 1915 – JULY 16 – STORM AT SUNSET”, July 16, 1915; watercolor and pencil on paper, 17 x 11 inches; Burchfield Penney Art Center, Gift of the Charles E. Burchfield Foundation, 2006
A dappled rain-imminent day – the sky moved in patches, and at times the sun caught the open spaces and lit up the earth with pale light –
Evening to Three Trees Territory to sketch – cool breeze out of south – remote call of bobwhite – sky a great pattern – rainbow around the sun which was a filmy glow in a grey & yellow sky
Wheat has become yellow. My mind feeds on the poetry of past events –
Night black & windy rain –
