Drought continues — I am trying to keep alive the four o-clocks, scarlet sage, chrysanthemums & morning glories by carrying water to them.
First grasshoppers (flying). One or two at night.
At night cool wind from East.
Working on frames – put antique coat on all of them today (Friday) –
Working today on touching up of two early water-colors belonging to F.R. [Frank Rehn] (bought by him at auction) “Scrapped Locomotives” and “Black-eyed shed.” – I had thought once to enlarge these, but concluded it was better to let Frank have them.
Evening put up string for morning-glories. Later we sat and watched the night come on. Some beautiful feathery crimson clouds – in the west. After the sun went down they turned first to the purest brilliant golden orange, then faded a little and then grew bright again, changing to red-orange.
