iXpress, a local community of artists with developmental disabilities, will be displaying works in a one-of-a-kind art exhibit from July 5 through Sept. 22
Aspire of WNY is proud to celebrate a three-year partnership with the renowned Burchfield Penney Art Center by announcing its latest art showing. This mixed-media exhibit, titled "Odyssey," features a coordinated display of art, prose and music highlighting the talents of Aspire's iXpress program participants.
A special opening reception features the Buffalo Chamber Players performing "Odyssey: Departure & Return," an original musical composition collaboratively written by selected iXpress artists and musicians. The performance and opening reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, on Friday, July 12.
Attendees will be able to view 22 canvases depicting the collective journey of this extraordinary community of artists with developmental disabilities.
"Some of our iXpress participants have been friends for half a century," said Alex Glenfield, art facilitator for Aspire. "These epic friendships form the foundation of this unique project presenting a personally moving and aesthetically beautiful depiction of living life with a disability."
Culminating the evening is the musical performance by the Buffalo Chamber Players marking their initial partnership with iXpress. The seven-piece chamber ensemble will perform an original score, written by a select group of iXpress artists and musicians, celebrating the experiences of each artist's journey through life.
