Working all day, cleaning out the walks around the garden etc. It is very cool, and cloudy – a raw east wind.
Evening, all of us to Dorothy Marcha’s wedding.
In spite of the inevitable banality, and even vulgarity that generally surrounds such events, the feeling persists that we witnessed a charming love-idyll. The dignity of the short marriage service, the simplicity of dress (lack of funds proves a blessing here) the radiant look in the faces of both the young people made of no account the cheap trivial tunes the organist played before the service, the incredible singing of ‘I love you truly” at the opening of the service, the blatant swing music for the dancing at the reception afterwards. Once I noticed Russel, the groom, while dancing with his bride, lightly and tenderly kiss her on the cheek several times.
