By a swift running stream—the water is clear but tinged with a transparent tobacco brown, which intensifies the colors of underwater plants. B. stretched out on her back on the warm earth—& I removed my shoes and socks. The delicious feel of the rank warm grass—It seemed as if I could feel the healing energy of the earth ascending my legs.
The heat of the sun, and the odors of rank swift growing vegetation almost sickening—The quality of this season is rankness. I think the sour stems of Rhubarb, which one used to chew raw, or the bitter taste of the calamus root.
