The Burchfield Penney Art Center and the Buffalo History Museum announced their participation in a program to provide free admission to active members of the United States armed services and their families this week.
Both museums are joining the Blue Star Museums program, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, the military advocacy program Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense.
The Burchfield Penney and the Buffalo History Museum join several other local museums and galleries that were already members of the program, including the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens, the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum in North Tonawanda and Lockport’s History Museum and Erie Canal Discovery Center.
The Albright-Knox Art Gallery launched its own program granting free admission and parking to military members and their families in 2009. The Blue Star Museums program does not include free parking, though parking is already free at the Buffalo History Museum and free after 7 p.m. and on weekends at the Burchfield Penney.
More information about the program is online at bluestarfam.org or arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.
