I awoke about 7:00, and was amazed to see the air full of flying snowflakes! (Later reports told of drifts 18” deep at Little Valley, necessitating the use of plows on the roads!) I was seized with an urge to do a painting of the “Last sorrow of the season as a companion piece to last fall “First Snow”—I contrived a rude sort of shelter from the sleet & wind, and set up my easel on the studio porch. All afternoon. My result was like a caprice, and appropriately enough, was less grim than last falls sketch. – Very cold & disagreeable.
