A mild sunny day with a warm S.W. breeze –
A.M. – to Dr. Arbesman + Dr. Gurney –
When I told Dr. A my experience of the last two days with the emphysema he warned me that when I felt pain in my chest due to activity, that already I had overdone. It is discouraging somewhat to know that I must be so careful about as simple a thing as putting a few plants in the garden – but on the other hand, I never have these pains when painting or mounting paper, so that is what I should consider and be thankful for.
Dr. Gurney was having a cup of coffee when I went into his office, so he ordered a cup for me; and we chatted a half-hour or so about various things, including hifi + stereo, our projected trip to Texas, the advisability of seat-belts (which he strongly recommended -) which was very pleasant –
From there to the F.M. Radio Store where I purchased a tape-mending kit – The salesman demonstrated for me the technique, which really seemed simple.
Home, and a delicious “lunch” consisting of potatoes with dried beef, gravy, fresh vegetables, and a mammoth grape-fruit.
After lunch to studio – remounted the “Swamp-fire at Evening” – Then studied “Northwind in March,” and “Solitude” – The later seems ready for the final creative effort – I long to get at it.
Evening Peggy over for the weekend – We watched television awhile – then she expressed a desire to hear Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerts, so I put it on for her – It sounded much better then when I first played it on the old player. Then I played for her Haydn’s Symphony 100 – Then after she and Betha had gone upstairs I played part of “My Fatherland” (Ma Vlast) [actual translation – My Homeland in Czech] Tabor, Blanik & High Castle & The Moldan, in that order.
