Hot hazy morning – sky a darkish violet – YG trees against it – already like Mid May -  Painting in room – Sketching in Park – deadening heat – heavy sky – thick blue haze – ground dry  - hot wind – Meet [Clara] Deike – the unexpectedness of meeting a fellow artist enhances the meeting – Likewise when I came upon [Frank] Daniels painting on the creek’s bank –

P.M – with J. [Burchfield erased “A” for Alice.] to Glens – Trees on way – faint bird warblings in air – picking flowers – Filmy Trees in black hollow – water roaring –

Sun RO at setting – Down by water at tunnel – Valley full of moonlight very pale blue – Fishes trying to swim up rapids – shoot up a ways sending up spray – catch hold of rock – flash of silver side – Read Rubaiyat by moonlight till 10:00.
