April 9 – Friday –
My 50th birthday – I ought to feel it some sort of milestone, but do not —
At breakfast a card from Sally at my place, with two packs of pepsin gum – The card, almost a “book” very clever and with a sentiment that brought tears to my eyes.
In the evening nice cards from Evie and Cathie, and a card from Martha she had made herself, showing a little woodland scene, with my favorite flower, hepaticas. Also, a nice wool tie. Earlier, I had chosen for myself two sets of records. The Dvorak Fourth & the Sibelius Seventh-Symphonies – to be a gift from the family.
A roast ham dinner –

P.M. Young Edward Hudspith (nephew of J.J. S.) who is home from the army on a furlough, out for a visit. He is an agreeable person, and I enjoyed him.
In the evening B & I to see “Desperadoes” —
