April 10, Friday
Warm and windy early in the morning, but all at once it changed and in a few moments the temperature went from 67 to 56.
We decided to go to Buffalo, and pay duty calls at various exhibitions. First to the Community Music School to see the Sisti show – 346 Elmwood, but the place empty – but a sign that said the show was at 325 Summer St. – So out to the Albright Gallery to get my W.N.Y. exhibits. Celia Schutz + Arthur Kowalski there also. Westphal said the drawing had been sold. Kowalski helped me out with the “Hepaticas” –
Back to Music School – Not open, but the head of school (Miss ___?) let us in, + when I told her who we were, she made a great fuss and turned on all of the lights for us.
From here we went to the Quaker Bonnet for lunch – which was enjoyable.
Then to Art Institute to see Blair’s show – we had just completed our tour of it when Bob came in. We fell at once into a discussion of the muddled state of art; (word that the Mac Beth Gallery is “out” had reached me, via Louise, a day or so ago.) In the midst of it a young man came out from the office, and ignoring us, boldly informed Bob he had a class waiting.
Downtown to the B.S.A. [Buffalo Society of Artists] show at the Statler. By this time I was exhausted so sat and waited for B to tour the show.
Then home.
A clever card from Sally + Red, containing a “dream” which used clever explanations of dreams. Also a check for $5.00 as a gift. Which I applied at once to two tone-poems of Dvorak.
