To [ravine] on Cole Rd (just above the roads _____ with the Boston Valley Road) –

Painting all day on a [ravine] with a deep hemlock ___ at its head. [Nodding] [hepatices] (it is cloudy so then long their heads) yellow & violets.

Evening to Lenten service. Forgot to take organ contracts Holdermiller had arranged for the organ builder to come to the church and explain the contract to the people. We waited a while but he did not come, so I was saved!

Letter from Gino that Frank is better. He was full of optimism.

Letter from M — she is in much better spirits, has a part time job in a restaurant.

Reading in “Wind in the Willows” —

Thoughts of last twilight in a woods, an hepatica or spring beauty in front of the black yawning cavern of a hollow tree —

The last nostalgic gleam of the fading daylight behind a wooded hill, at whose base is a little village in deep gloom —

Thoughts of boys setting out from a town or village in bright sunlight, on a Saturday in March —
