The south west wind cuts steel—like thru the great frigid arch of a March sky; whipping the hard barren earth with icy ferocity. Most of the snow patches have been melted and reduced to ice, with a hard and highly polished surface; and in it at times, when the pale remote clouds parted enough, was reflected the cold silvery light of our great daystar, glaring brilliantly in a watery blue sky.
