Another brilliant sunshiny day –
Before the sun came up, when only a pale orange glow was shining beyond the thicket, the red-bird was singing – A thin sliver of the last crescent of the moon.
Before I started work in the studio, I started answering the red-bird which was singing somewhere near Orchard Avenue. He seemed to be coming closer, I went into the studio for a moment, then came out; the red-bird, curious was perched on the gutter, right at the little porch. Had I been more careful, perhaps he would have come down to me. He flew away, startled, but soon was singing again; another one started answering somewhere to the east.
