A.M. all to Buffalo – Bertha + three oldest to Great Lakes – Catherine, Arthur + I to Harbor – at Evans elevators – lucky enough to see a loaded grain barge put into motion by a tug, and the whole operation of the grain being sucked up into an elevator – looking a boat “the Harry Yates” – a chunky good natured man gives us permission to come on board – have to climb long ladder - the children are somewhat scared, but bravely climb – walk all over boat – men riveting –
Drive down to D. L+W Station + thence to Island at foot of Michigan – then out to Lackawanna + then up to theater to get rest of family.
Bertha talks so much about “The Scarlet Pimpernel” that I had to go, in the evening to see it. A very tense, well done picture, which I enjoyed as completely as anything I’ve seen for a while.
