The third annual Museum Selfie Day (@MuseumSelfieDay) will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 20.
Inspired by a 2014 blog post on culturethemes.com, the virtual happening is designed to increase participation and raise attendance at museums and galleries worldwide. The event encourages Twitter and Instagram users to post pictures of themselves posing with works of art, touring a gallery, or attending cultural events.
This year, the Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State (@BPArtCenter) will join museums around the globe in this merging of art and social media. Visitors to the center are encouraged to post their photos from a current exhibition or outside the building’s Elmwood Avenue-facing façade and tag them with #MuseumSelfie and #BPArtCenter. As always, Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff receive free general admission.
Buffalo State is uniquely situated in the heart of the city’s vibrant museum district. Major museums and performance spaces, like the Burchfield Penney and Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall, are found directly on campus and within walking distance.
