Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), Black Iron, 1935; watercolor on paper, 28 1/8 x 40 inches; Arkansas Arts Center Foundation Collection, Gift of Hope Aldrich, in memory of her father, John D. Rockefeller III, 2013
The Burchfield Penney Art Center is offering a lecture and bus tour of Burchfield’s city sites. Visit the places Charles E. Burchfield lived and see first-hand the sites he painted in Buffalo. Nancy Weekly, Head of Collections/Charles Cary Rumsey Curator and Burchfield scholar, will present a lecture during a coffee hour at the museum. Then we will tour the city on a coach bus as Weekly identifies buildings and locations, such as the site of the former M.H. Birge & Sons Company and the Niagara Mohawk Building. Brunch will be served at Butterwood Sweet and Savory at the Lafayette Hotel in downtown Buffalo. As Buffalo State College has declared this the Year of the City, this tour is a wonderful way to see Buffalo through a new perspective.
